BENGUELA COVE - A TOUCH OF HEAVEN

Take a cruise to Benguela Cove in Hermanus this festive season and experience the magic yourself! You are in for the most memorable treat.

As the year is rapidly coming to an end, I took some time to reminisce on the most beautiful local places I got to visit and experience in 2019. Benguela Cove Estate is inevitably on top of my list and could easily be considered as one of the most beautiful wine estates in South Africa. You are in for a magical and enchanting ride even before you enter the building as 3 bold & colorful effervescent masks sculptures of Anton Smith's welcomes you! This is what I call "love at first sight". You will stop and stare in admiration. Simply amazing, simply WOW!

First, a complimentary glass of the soft and lingering Joie de Vivre Brut 2014 as you overlook the panoramic views of the Lagoon and surrounding mountains. Joie de Vivre means "The Exuberant Enjoyment of Life" which is the most fitting description for this MCC.

THE TASTING ROOM Benguela Cove's big and vibrant Tasting Room makes you feel like royalty. With artwork and sculptures perfectly positioned, chandeliers hanging from the roof and the elegant decor, you might think you're somewhere lost in heaven. The Tasting Room with its big window walls teases your wondering eyes with its tranquil views, giving you a glimpse of what you can expect when setting foot outside. Samarie, the Brand Business Manager gives the group a quick and extraordinary tour through the cellar, feeding us with the rich history of Benguela Cove and how it evolved into an award-winning wine producing estate.

THE ART GALLERY This leads us into the much anticipated Art Gallery where we met the passionate and energetic Gallery Manager who talked us through each of Anton's impeccable masterpieces and the meaning behind each one. It is really something you HAVE to experience yourself. Mind blowing!

MOODY LAGOON - THE RESTAURANT It is no surprise that chef Jean Delport, the second South African chef was awarded a Michelin Star. Chef Jean is heading up Restaurant Interlude in the UK. Chef Annie Badenhorst is the executive chef at Moody Lagoon. You are spoilt with mouthwatering (and affordable) options. Every plate that was presented was almost too pretty to touch and took "fine cuisine" to another level!

Hog the Herald Angels is Annie’s ode to slow roasted pork belly, concluding the experience with Layers of Joy to the World - a traditional trifle that will make your heart sing. Boxing Day Lunch

Boxing Day is a traditional public holiday following Christmas Day. The term “Christmas box” dates back to the 17th century. There are many meanings, but in Britain it was a custom for tradesmen to collect Christmas boxes on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year. At Benguela Cove we continue to celebrate the gift of family and friends in a more laid back and jazzy atmosphere. Enjoy our lunch menu - including favourites like the pea and mushroom risotto, whiskey marinated chicken breast burgers, salads, platters and home-made ice cream. The sounds of Piano Ben, a local artist, will add the notes for you to unwind. With an added array of activities like Wine Tasting & Pairings, Cellar Tours, a Vineyard Safari, Boat Cruise, Adventure Golf and Splash, be assured there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
